A beautiful sunny autumn day. A 226 bus from Sydenham Hill to Penge High Street. I walked to Penge East Station. Train to Petts Wood.
The paths and the uphill section through Crofton Wood were still quite muddy and in place badly so, but the alternative path 3 or 4 metres to the left of the main path is still there and offers a good alternative, though it is still a bit rutted and uneven. It’s just a lot less muddy; mostly. Overall, the woods were not as muddy as I remember them being last time.
By the way my new peaked cap works very well. It is keeping the winter sun out of my eyes and I can see where I am going. Without getting too hot.
Met a Romanian guy and his little boy at Keston Ponds filling up couple of dozen plastic bottles of water from the source of the Ravensbourne. Bit of an earth-mother. Foraging for mushrooms. Nice chat.
Forgot to tap in/out at Hayes. So got to clock house without any record of travel. Wouldn’t have cost anything anyway.
